NYC’s Glitziest Academy Awards Parties: 2017

87th Annual Academy Awards - Backstage And AudienceJust because you weren’t invited to the Oscars doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate in style.  So go on and dwell in la la land (for one night, at least), at the New York’s glitteriest and bubbliest Oscar bashes.   From the Roof at the Viceroy to the white hot Metrograph Commissary…

Metrograph Commissary: Inspired by the studio eateries from Hollywood’s Golden Age, the plush, multi-room Commissary could well serve as New York’s equivalent to Cali’s rollicking after-party hubs.  They’ve definitely gotten into the spirit in the weeks preceding the Academy Awards (by screening past Best Picture winners like “Casablanca,” “The Apartment” and “Midnight Cowboy”), and the night-of promises to be plenty celebratory, too, with bespoke cocktails, 05-metrograph-commissary-6.w710.h473.2xsuch as lillet-lightened Negronis, the “Sunset Boulevard” (apple brandy and cider) and classic eats; from Steak Tartare and Baked Trout, to a Jack Lemmon Salad with little gems, sunflower seeds and citrus.
7 Ludlow St, (212) 660-0312

Shay & Ivy: Walk the red carpet into the private garden room at this sleek Flatiron restaurant to watch the show on the large screen, nosh on complimentary homemade flavored popcorn (and a la carte bites like Chile Salmon Crudo and Duck Confit Spring Rolls), and toast the honorees with specialty cocktails like “The Winner Is” with rum, basil and cardamom, and “The Red Carpet” with tequila, red bell pepper, cynar, agave and lime.  And don’t forget to fill out a ballot with your predictions, for raffle prizes like gift cards, shirts, hats and more.

CALIPER THEATRENitehawk Cinemas: Needless to say, NYC’s first movie theatre/restaurant throws a heck of a catered Oscar party. Purchase of a $30 concessions voucher saves a seat in the screening room, and access to themed dishes and drinks like Cuban Risotto Balls (inspired by “Moonlight”), the mezcal and Gosling’s ginger beer-spiked “L.A. Sunset” (referencing “La La Land”), and the Chandler’s Charters Fish & Chips, for “Manchester by the Sea.”
136 Metropolitan Ave, (718) 782-8370

The Roof at Viceroy: Gaze out at our own city of stars from the Viceroy’s Central Park-adjacent roof bar.  Annual Oscar events feature a pre-show glam session, with complimentary manicures and braids, ballots with prizes like Cyc Fitness gym memberships, fistfuls of free popcorn and discounted themed drinks.
124 W 57th St, (212) 707-8008

Cw71G1BXEAAbqtb230 Fifth: Believe it or not, a mere $35 buys complete access to NYC’s biggest, swankiest roof deck (furnished with insulated, see-through igloos) on Oscar night, not to mention champagne, beer and an open bar, and an expansive hors d’oeuvres station with short rib sliders, hummus, truffle mac and cheese and more from 7-9pm.
230 5th Ave, (212) 725-4300

Ocean Prime: If you can’t make it to their Beverly Hills location, you can say hooray to Hollywood at Ocean Prime New York, during a booze-fueled telecast replete with “Moonlight Margaritas,” “My Life as a Cucumber Gimlets” and “Manhattans By the Sea.”  Just make sure to prime your stomach with a Theatre Menu prix fixe first, with options like french onion soup, jalapeño au gratin and surf and turf.
