Drink Spotting: Candy Cane Martini at Highpoint Bistro & Bar

It’s hard not to feel a little bit deflated after the holidays.  After all, almost every day from late November until the very beginning of January has been a whirlwind of family and food and decorations and Christmas shopping and cookie baking and tree trimming and caroling and presents and New Years Rockin’ Eve and the ball dropping in Times Square and kisses and champagne and then…what?  Back to the grind until Groundhog’s Day?  It’s enough to make you want a stiff drink just to deal with it all.

Luckily, we’ve found just the thing to drown your sorrows in and keep you in the holiday spirit for just a little bit longer.  The Candy Cane Martini at Highpoint is just about as festive as it gets (we really respond to the candy cane-coated rim.)  Made with vanilla vodka, white creme de cacao and peppermint schnapps, it’s refreshing, indulgent, and jolly.  And staying true to season (or the post-season, at least), Highpoint swaps the traditional olive for a frosty, peppermint candy.  This dainty-looking drink is a bit more potent than it might first appear, so be sure to balance out all of that alcohol with something satisfying and tasty, like the Lump Crab and Potato Sandwich.  It may not be a holiday ham or Buche de Noel, but hey, you’re gonna have to let go sometime.
