“Maple’s” Mark Cocktail

spirits210Sugar is a standard ingredient in cocktails.  But now that it’s fall, why not swap out the white stuff for the more nuanced sweetness of maple syrup?  It lends body, aroma and color to almost any drink, along with appealing, autumnal flavors, like caramel, wood smoke and spice.  We’ve highlighted those delightful qualities even further in this indulgent cocktail recipe, with a dash of Vermont Maple Liquor (ask your local store to get it in stock), a hint of nutty Frangelico, and a healthy pour of toasty Maker’s Mark!

Maples Mark
(Makes 1 Drink)

Ingredients:
3/4 ounce of maple syrup, plus more for rimming the glass
Crushed hazelnuts, for rimming the glass
2 ounces of Maker’s Mark Bourbon
1 ounce of Sapling Vermont Maple Liqueur
1 ounce of Frangelico

Directions: Rim a martini glass with maple syrup and crushed hazelnuts.  Combine Bourbon, Maple Liqueur, Frangelico and ¾ ounces of Maple Syrup in a cocktail shaker filled with ice, and shake to combine.  Strain into the martini glass, and serve.
